Petra's Pottery is "off the grid and off the beaten path" and sits in a clearing in the woods east of Katrine in the beautiful Almaguin Highlands just 20 minutes north of Muskoka. I have lived here with my family surrounded by trees and the sounds of nature for more than 30 years.
My pottery journey began about 15 years ago when I started taking classes at Canadore College in North Bay. I was very fortunate to have a variety of instructors who were very talented professional potters with many years of experience and were generous with their knowledge. After years of part-time classes I moved some equipment into my son's room after he left for University and started making pots at home. When I grew out of that room I moved into a screen tent in the front yard and when that wasn't good enough I got an old used bus and stuck that in the backyard and used it for a couple of years. Twelve years ago we built the studio/gallery behind our house and this is where I do my work full time now. It is a space that is comfortable for me and makes me happy.
I enjoy showing people where I work and what the process of making pottery involves.
It is a beautiful drive through the forest to get here and once you do you won't be disappointed.
